LIFESAVING AND FIRE SAFETY DIVISION (CG-ENG-4)

The Lifesaving and Fire Safety Division (Commandant (CG-ENG-4)) is part of the Office of Design and Engineering Standards at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.  This division is responsible for developing and maintaining national and international lifesaving and fire safety standards for commercial ships and recreational boats. To accomplish this mission, the Lifesaving and Fire Safety Division provides policy oversight and technical expertise and administers the Coast Guard approval program in the areas of passenger evacuation, survival and rescue equipment, structural fire protection, and fire detection and extinguishing systems.
