Waterways Policies and Activities (CG-WWM-1)


Missions:

Oceans and Transportation Policy - Coordinates policy development for the Marine Transportation System in aspects such as intermodal transportation, commercial competitiveness, and environmental sustainability. This also includes representing the Coast Guard on the Committee for the Marine Transportation System, the cabinet level committee that coordinates the 18 federal agencies involved in maritime governance.

Waterways Management - Charged with the policy and program management role for a broad spectrum of issues traditionally addressed by Waterways Management at the Captain of the Port and District Levels. Waterways Management program development will include analysis of key areas, including professional development, training and certification, career patterns, update of current waterways policies, such as Marine Events Permits and Abandoned Vessel Removal, and developing new guidance.
