The Polar Coordination Office is chartered to lead the execution of the Coast Guard's Polar Strategy and its Implementation Plans. The Polar Coordination Office coordinates the cross-programmatic initiatives across the Coast Guard enterprise, incorporating all CG mission areas and in conjunction with the operational commanders. Additionally, the Polar Coordination Office serves as the Program manager for the Polar Region missions and works in the Global Force Management Process to identify the Strategic employment of Coast Guard assets in the Polar regions. The Strategy and the Plan, in combination, guide critical execution activities and milestones.  Highlights of initiatives and projects include: advancing an Arctic Coast Guard Forum, supporting the Arctic Council Chairmanship, sponsoring the Coast Guard's Center for Arctic Study and Policy (CASP), as well as efforts to enhancing arctic operations, including strengthening marine environmental response, enhancing maritime domain awareness and communications.   The Polar Coordination Office represents the Coast Guard in numerous interagency policy entities, including the Arctic Executive Steering Committee, the Arctic Policy Group, Arctic Security IPC and arctic focused workgroups of the Committee on Marine Transportation Systems and National Ocean Policy.  In addition, the Polar Coordination Office serves as co-chair of the US Navy/US Coast Guard Arctic Working Group.  The responsibility for these activities and maintenance of the Coast Guard Arctic Strategy and Implementation Plan.  The Polar Coordination Office reports directly to the Director, Marine Transportation Systems.  Together, they work to ensure the Commandant's vision of safe, secure, and environmentally responsible maritime activity in the Polar regions.
