Great Lakes Oil Spill Center of Expertise (GLCOE)

About Us


The GLCOE is a non-operational body with a legislative mandate to conduct research in the domain of oil spill response.  The GLCOE’s purpose is to operationalize innovative ideas that improve freshwater and icy water oil spill responses. The GLCOE serves as the scientific & technical expert in: Conducting and evaluating collaborative oil spill research to operationalize innovative ideas that improve freshwater and icy water oil spill responses, and providing education and training for federal, tribal, state, and local responders to improve oil spill response coordination, techniques, and public engagement practices.
