Marine Environmental Response Seal. The Marine Environmental Protection (MEP) mission is one of the Coast Guard's eleven statutory missions. The MEP mission includes the "planning, preparations, and operations to prevent, enforce, investigate, respond to, and mitigate the threat, frequency, and consequences of oil discharges and hazardous substance releases in U.S. waters." As a goal, the MEP mission facilitates the safe, efficient, and sustainable use of the Maritime Transportation System (MTS) by mitigating and reducing the risk of harm to the maritime environment.
 

 

Preview image of the ICCOPR landing page. ICCOPR is a 16-member Interagency Committee established by Title VII of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (Section 7001). ICCOPR was established to: “…coordinate a comprehensive program of oil pollution research, technology development, and demonstration among the federal agencies, in cooperation and coordination with industry, universities, research institutions, state governments, and other nations, as appropriate, and shall foster cost-effective research mechanisms, including the joint funding of the research." ICCOPR activities are documented in biennial reports to Congress.

The Coast Guard’s Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) and Innovation Program is the Coast Guard’s leading office conducting applied RDT&E experimentations and demonstrations. At any given time it is working on more than 40 research and innovation projects that support Coast Guard requirements spanning all 11 mission areas. The RDT&E and Innovation Program enhances acquisition and mission execution by conducting applied research and bringing technological advancements and innovation to the service’s operational forces.

This includes any technology, system or platform that provides continuous or persistent coverage and supports or facilitates the Coast Guard’s 11 missions. The Coast Guard Blue Technology Center of Expertise (BTCOE) is designed to educate industry, academic and government partners about Coast Guard missions and technology requirements and to facilitate integration of state-of-the-market tools and capabilities in support of the service’s operational mission needs.
