Resident Training: Join us for Training in the United States
The U.S. Coast Guard offers many of our own resident courses in the United States to International Military Students (IMS). These courses are developed to meet USCG core mission requirements and are intended to improve mission performance. Resident courses are categorized as either "A" Schools or "C" Schools.
"A" School
Hands-on, performance-based "A" School courses teach entry-level skills in a formal classroom setting. The USCG students in these courses are primarily non-designated seamen who are working toward a career field. The USCG attendees are enlisted personnel who have either recently completed basic recruit training or have had brief duty assignments with little or no practical experience.
"C" School
Advanced "C" School courses, taught at USCG training centers, are for experienced mariners who are progressing through a career field. A student may take a "C" School course after either successfully completing an "A" School or already having the requisite experience. Students either achieve technical proficiency in a specific craft or gain leadership and management skills
