Gas Carrier Fundamentals Course (GAS) (MS-513)

Prerequisites:

1) Active or Reserve U.S. Coast Guard member

2) Applicants must have the FGCE competency assigned in TMT.


The Gas Carrier Fundamentals Course is held at Calhoon MEBA Engineering School.

This is a Gas Carrier familiarization course. The purpose of the course is to familiarize PSCE with four days of design standards, ship operations, cargo operations and hazards associated with the carriage of liquefied gases. Participants will also receive a fast paced, one day, instruction on the recommended procedures for conducting a liquefied gas carrier COC examination.  In addition, participants receive hands on cargo/ballast simulator training and participate in scenario based exercises and assessments.

The duration of the course is 5 days.

Priority:

Priority 1: Applicants that are assigned to feeder ports that have the FGCE competency designated as "attainable".

Priority 2: Applicants assigned to feeder ports with the FGCE competency designated as "sustainable" and those applicants assigned to non-feeder ports that conduct COC exams on liquefied gas carriers.
